Black-Capped Chickadee in Inglewood, Calgary Jor El Carbonero de Capucha Negra en Inglewood, Calgary

 Black-Capped Chickadee, Parus atricapillus, is a small size North American songbird from the Paridae family. This non-migratory bird usually lives in forest and semiwooded areas, and its diet consist of seeds, berries, and insects. Also, it has a black cap, white face patch, black chin, and its plumage is gray.

El Carbonero de Capucha Negra, Parus atricapillus, es un pájaro pequeño del Norte de America que pertenece a la familia Paridae y tiene un canto peculiar. Es un ave sedentaria que suele vivir en bosques o areas semiforestales alimentándose de semilla, bayas, e insectos. Además, se caracteriza por su capucha negra, mejillas blancas, babero negro, y su plumaje gris.

Mule Deer or Ciervo Mulo in Calgary

The Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a natural reserve located southeast region of Calgary, and this is the place where I took some photos of this mammal.

El Santuario de aves conocido como Inglewood es una reserva natural localizada en la zona sureste de Calgary, y allí fue donde tome algunas fotos de este mamífero.

The Mule Deer, Odocoileus hemionus, has large ears, a black spot on either side of its nose, a black-tipped tail, and it has a bigger whitish rump patch than the White-tailed Deer, Odocoileus virginianus (Fisher, 1999). It mainly feed from grasses and forbs in summer; twigs and woody vegetation in winter. Furthermore, the male deer's antler will usually start to grow in the early spring and it will fall off in the late winter. 

El ciervo mulo o venado bura,  Odocoileus hemionus, se distingue por sus largas orejas, la mancha negro a cada lado de su hocico, la punta negra de su cola, y la gran mancha blanca de su parte posterior. Una de las diferencias entre el ciervo mulo y el ciervo de cola blanca, Odocoileus virginianus, es que la mancha blanca trasera del ciervo de cola blanca es mas pequeña y esta tapada por la cola (Fisher, 1999).

Even though it is a solitary specie, it will form herds during the mating season and winter.

Aunque es una especie solitaria, lo vamos a encontrar en manada durante la época reproductora y el invierno.

After a few seconds the second deer stood up and both of them were facing each other/

Swainson's Hawk or El Gavilán de Swainson in Calgary

The other day I took some photos of the Swainson's Hawk near the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. It was spotted on a tree near a fence and electricity posts waiting for a Richardson's ground squirrel to come out of its burrow. 


El otro día tomé algunas fotos del Gavilán de Swainson cerca del Santuario para Aves de Inglewood. Se encontraba posado en la rama de un árbol, cerca de una valla y postes de la luz, esperando a que las ardillas de Richardson salieran de su madriguera. 

This hawk  migrates from South America to North America to spend the spring and summer, and it has a banded tail, dark breastband, and dark outer flight feathers. 


Es un ave migratorio el cual vamos a encontrar desplazándose desde América del Sur a América del Norte donde pasará los meses de primavera y verano.  Y se distingue por su pecho, cola a bandas, y plumas periféricas de color oscuro.

Richardson's Ground Squirrel or la Ardilla de Richardson in Calgary

The Richardson's Ground Squirrel also known as a Gopher, Spermophilus  richardsonii, is a rodent which  has been using to symbolize the Canadian grasslands. 
La ardilla de Richardson, Spermophilus  richardsonii, es un roedor que ha sido utilizado como representante de las praderas canadienses.

I took the following photos last spring in a park near the Bow Habitat Station:

In the winter the family usually hibernate in a main burrow which has many secondary entrances.Those entrances are also used for another living beings as a winter refuge.

Durante el invierno la familia va a hibernar en su madriguera principal, la cual tiene muchas entradas secundarias. Estas entradas son también utilizadas como refugio por otros seres vivos durante el invierno. 

 

The colour of its upperpart is grey to cinnamon and the underpart is a pale yellowish or grey. 

Tiene el lomo de color canela y su vientre es de un tono amarillo-grisáceo. 

I really think that the gopher is very cute in this photo/
Creo que en esta foto aparece muy mono.

The gopher usually eats grasses, seeds, flowers, insects,..; however those who live inside the cities will also eat human food like bread, etc. 

Esta ardilla suele comer hierbas, semillas, flores, insectos, ...; aunque también vive en las ciudades y se alimenta, entre otras cosas, de los restos de comida humana como pan, etc.

Santa Pola's medieval market ... Mercado medieval de Santa Pola

There is a castle in Santa Pola which was built on the s. XVI and it has been restored a few times. This time I found a medieval market on the inside patio of the castle.

Hay un castillo en Santa Pola que fue construido en el s. XVI y que ha sido reformado varias veces. Esta vez encontre un mercadillo medieval en su patio interior.
